Lancing Parish Council

Lancing Parish Council was set up in 1894. It covers the area between Shoreham-by-sea and Worthing from Western Road (adjacent to Brooklands) and Sompting in the west through to the River Adur in the east. It stretches from the beach and coast inland to include part of the South Downs.

Minutes of the Meeting of the Amenities & Environment Committee held on Wednesday 8th February 2012

 

 

Present:          Chairman Cllr Mary Hamblin

 

Councillors Melvyn Blackband, Ann Bridges,  Fred Lewis, James Butcher & Steve Martin

 

In attendance; Antony Hardie, Deputy Clerk to the Council.

Apologies were received from Cllrs. Ann Terry and Brenda Collard.

53.       Minutes of the Previous Meeting held on 14th December 2011.

 

The Minutes of this meeting were confirmed at Full Council on 4th January 2012. Copies of those minutes were attached to the Full Council Meeting of the same date.

54.       Public Forum/Questions.

55.       Issues Relating to Outdoor Facilities.

 

 

55.1     Dog Fouling

 

The Chair reported that there specific fouling problems at Larkfield Close and Widewater, but also in the Parish generally. She held a meeting with about 20 Larkfield residents and as a result asked Seaside and North Lancing Schools to draw some posters, which Adur District Council have agreed to laminate. The posters will be displayed around the parish.

 

It was also noted that ADC are appointing a Dog Warden, whom it is hoped will implement the Dog Control Orders of 2009.

 

55.2     Adult Keep Fit equipment on Beach Green

 

The Chair reported that she, Councillor Brenda Collard and the Deputy Parish Clerk visited the Southwick Leisure Centre to look at their equipment. She noted the heavy usage by school children of the equipment.

 

As a result of the success of this equipment, Adur District Council with Biffa funding is installing more equipment at Buckingham Park and Lancing Manor Park.

 

The Chair is to put together a bid for equipment for installation on Beach Green.

 

Councillor James Butcher noted that Sainsbury’s have individual Community Budgets and that it would be worth approaching their store at Lyons Farm. Committee instructed the Deputy Parish Clerk to find out contact details.

 

55.3     Jubilee Celebrations

 

            Notes will be circulated for the meeting of the 8th Feb 2012 and the next meeting           will be held on Wednesday 15th February 2012 at 6.30pm.

 

56.       Correspondence Received.

 

56.1    Copies of the email from Graham Ilsley of the Worthing Rotary Club offering to plant 35 trees in the Lancing area were circulated.

 

            It was agreed that there should be one planted at the front of the Parish Hall and another at Headborough Gardens. A number could be planted around the recreation ground at Orient Road and some at the triangle at the entrance to the estate at Western Road in Croshaw recreation ground.

 

            Councillor Steve Martin suggested that some could be planted on verge of the A259 beyond Adur Close.

 

            The Deputy Clerk to contact Councillor Brenda Collard who would like some trees planted on Mash Barn Lane.

 

57        Clerks Report(s).

 

57.1     The Deputy Clerk reported the Clerk’s suggestion that the refurbished winch     should be set in the Bandstand now that the partitions have been removed. It was     noted that with the high value of scrap metal and the prevalence of theft that it          would be best to wait until the general situation improves.

 

58.       Any Other Urgent Business (Agreed with the Chairman in advance).

 

            Councillor Steve Martin raised the issue of the lack of public information and     consultation on the Brighton & Hove Albion proposed development at Mash             Barn. He asked that the Clerk should find out the dates for the Planning             submissions and that there should then be a public meeting at Lancing Parish      Hall, before the plans are considered.

 

            It was agreed that this item should be raised under AOB at the Finance & General         Purposes meeting on the 15th February.
