Planning
Adur District Council, whose offices are at Ham Road, Shoreham-by-Sea,
BN43 6PR (telephone 01273 263000) are the local planning authority for
Lancing.
Lancing Parish Council is a statutory consultee in respect of all planning
applications received by the District Council for the civil parish area
of Lancing. This means that Parish Councillors have the opportunity to
consider all plans received and to forward their recommendations to the
District Council. It needs to be emphasised that it is the District Council
that determines whether planning permission should be granted or not.
In reaching a decision the District Council considers the planning issues
involved, their own local plan policies, planning guidance issued by central
government and all the recommendations received from consultees including
the Parish Council and others.
The Parish Council's Planning Advisory Committee meets in open session
in the Council Chamber at the Parish Hall twice monthly (see meetings
page for dates of these). A copy of the plans list detailing the applications
to be considered at any meeting is posted on the outside Notice Board
adjacent to the Parish Hall main entrance.
Each Planning Advisory Committee meeting includes time for public questions.
This is an opportunity for the public to attend and question their Councillors
about an item on the agenda or some other planning issue in the town.
The public are not allowed to participate when the plans are being considered.
Councillors and the Council do however welcome receiving copies of written
representations that groups or individuals might have sent to the District
Council outlining views on specific applications. Whenever these are received
Councillors are apprised of the content prior to their consideration of
the plans in order to inform the democratic decision making process.
Lancing Planning
Applications
As from the 1st October 2003 the District Council enabled public
speaking and representations to be made to them on planning applications
for Lancing at their Planning Regulatory Committee Meetings.
The Parish Council and local residents are, therefore now be able, over
and above written representations, to express their views directly on
planning applications that may affect them.
The Parish Council is already a consultee on all planning applications
for Lancing and twice monthly passes its comments and views on these to
the District Council, which then form part of their decision making
process.
The Parish Council seeks to represent the views of its community and
welcomes this opportunity to express these in a direct manner, to the
District Council, and will do so on those applications it feels
necessary or feel have an adverse affect on the village.
The Parish Council is also keen to provide the opportunity for itself to
comment on any applications on behalf of residents of Lancing where it
is felt that these could not be made by the individual for whatever
reason.
Should any resident of Lancing wish to comment on any application and
have these presented by the Parish Council, on their behalf, they can do
so by contacting the Parish Council offices.
The Parish Council also holds copies of all planning applications for
Lancing for inspection and comment.
