Residents in Lancing can also use the bus to go to Steyning, Upper Beeding and Henfield.

ITEM 10

WORLD OF WIDEWATER - SPRING CLEAN

In spite of the driving rain, a few valiant volunteers, including Brenda Collard, Chair of Adur District Council and Chair of Lancing Parish Amenaties and Environment Committee,  came to the Widewater Lagoon in Lancing on Saturday afternoon, 27th March to remove litter from the Nature Reserve.

This event was organised not only to remove the litter which is detrimental to wildlife, but to explain the new Adur District Council Dog Control Orders that apply in this area.   Many law abiding dog walkers may not realize that it is now an offence for dogs not to be on leads in the car parks and within the Nature Reserve.

Likewise it is an offence for dog walkers not to pick up after their dog.   Volunteers from the Dogs Trust and Pet Professionals, who also helped, were horrified to see the amount of dog faeces within the Nature Reserve and on the Causeway path.   This is not only smelly and unpleasant to look at but a Health and Safety issue especially for children and the elderly.   If a dog walker does forget, bags provided by the Dogs Trust and Adur Watch are in the Widewater booth.

Dog treats were donated by Grove Lodge and the sausages for the free hot dogs were donated by Freedown Foods.

There will be further events and children's activities during the school holidays and these will be advertised on the board outside the booth and in the newsletter which is sent out to all members.  We will ensure that the Widewater Nature Reserve will continue to be a haven for wildlife and enjoyed by so many.

For further information about World of Widewater please contact Mary Hamblin (Chair) on 01903 764059. Dog Control Orders are explained on the Adur District Council website.
